on kindle, only one problem...

the introduction is very good, and texts are awesome. The only problem with kindle edition is that Content links to texts do not work, so you are left with navigating through the search option on your device. That's, in my oppinion, a real drawback for a book of over 600 pages.

Excellent Documentation on a Famous Qigong form

A previous reviewer describe the form that this book documents as "too simple" for people interested in the martial arts... For the record, the form described by this book was a closely guarded secret of the Shaolin temple and it formed the basis for developing "external" qi for both martial and healing applications. The form was made public early in the twentieth century and has become very popular in China. Most extremely effective qigong are deceptively simple. The secret of their application lies in years of constant practice.

A Valuable Guide

I agree with the two most recent reviewers....this is an excellent book for those wishing to learn this ancient and powerful Qi Gong method. I learned the form 8 years ago from a Chinese master in Vancouver, B.C., and have searched for more information since. This book provides comprehensive descriptions keyed to clear photographs showing both how to do the form as well as describing applications. With any Qi Gong form, having an instructor standing in front of you is ideal. However, Peter Fenton does the next best thing for those without this option. I learned key information that my instructor had not provided and I continue use the book as a valuable guide.

Excellent for tourists or beginners

I lived in Slovakia for two years, during which I had to pick up the language mostly by myself. When I discovered this book partway into the second year I was delighted. It is excellent for any English speaker, easy to understand and very to follow. The only drawback is for missionaries and diplomats - those who are MOVING to the country. By the time you get to the chapters on grocery shopping and going to the post office you might have died of starvation! Skip to these right away and don't be afraid to take the book with you into stores. Have a good time!

Good handbook for everyone

When I was in Slovakia this summer, I really wanted to learn Slovak language. Thus "Slovak for you" was the first handbook I found in a bookstore. The content of it is satisfying for me. The book includes many dialogues taken from usual life in Slovakia. It has also wide comments on grammatical topics. Of course, there are books which focus mainly on it. But the book by Bohmerova is good enough for every beginner - speaker of English (not only as a mother tongue).

About the Author

In great detail, the author describes the dystopian future of the Earth and its Orwellian new political system. The meticulous descriptions make this world so real and present. A weird yet well-structured and balanced mixture of cyberpunk, really well-thought 'hard' sc-fi and the occult make this book a real treat for any reader who is into Philip Dick or William Gibson. The Phoeron places his hero in a spacetime where Dostoevsky himself would place Raskolnikov to test his reaction to a totally new level of guilt! Some parts require the basic understanding of quant physics concepts, but that makes the book even more valuable for a demanding reader.

I loved this book :) I read it several times...and have given it to friends who have horses. It isn't a training book so to speak, it's more along the lines of getting in your horses head so you can gain the leadership spot. Lots of good stuff on buying horses too and how to avoid rewarding bad behavior. It was really great. I recommend it to everyone who is into horses - especially if you own one or are planning on owning one.

This book has single handedly helped change my life. I have been working on personal development for some time and this book has really peeled back a layer in my quest that I was not expecting. I feel like I have fallen in love with myself more and more as I read this book and do the journaling and the activities. It has been hard during some of the practices but I can confidently say that this book is responsible for helping me release a lot of the past and making sure I fall in love with myself over any one else first.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. I never write reviews. THIS ONE DESERVES A MILLION. I am buying this book for all of my siblings and friends and family this Christmas and it will be all they get.

WOW!Pressure washing for the soul:)

WOW! Holy Smoly this is a spectacular book! Its like using a pressure washer instead of a sprinkler to help one heal~its powerful, quick, easy, and you will get a little wet, yet the results are you can see the original foundation again~shiny and beautiful. Very powerful and freeing exercises. Only on day 9, and man was it a big one!:) Excited to see how the next 12 days continue to magically change and enhance my life! Thank you Louise!!xo

I grew up on oatmeal...and many times I sure grew tired of it. I mean, sometimes two or three meals of oatmeal a day -- we were poor farmers on the prairies of Canada. So it was often oatmeal, or porridge with milk, cream, or when the cows were dry--hot lard! NEVER AGAIN with lard!

For decades I've liked oatmeal two or three times a week, often just plain with milk, sometimes some fruit added to it. And now--here's a book I wish we had years ago! No more mushy mush--but dozens of ways to prepare and eat "the mush!" And it has health benefits galore, as well as being inexpensive. Oatmeal is rich in fiber and some minerals, helps to stabilize blood sugar and enhance your immune system

Here you'll have 13 recipes for "porridge," sounds plain but these recipes add more taste and nutrition. BAKED OATMEAL -- 12 recipes that make my mouth water. BREADS & BREAKFAST -- looking forward to trying recipes like "banana almond oat pancakes." SNACKS -- sound better than most granola bars. SMOOTHIES, SOUPS and ENTREES -- really going overboard! Some great recipes for vegetarians.

I eat oatmeal because it's healthy and filling but it can get a little boring. These recipes are great and allow me to enjoy my oatmeal a lot more! I love the oatmeal cookies, pancakes, bars, and baked oatmeal. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent, well written, intelligent book

Two intriguing, conflicted, intelligent, independent people drawn together in circumstances not of their choosing, find in elements of their lives a way to communicate in some of the most intelligent dialogue written in this genre. The cover of this book does no justice to the complexities and nuances of the story line. I will keep this book to reread if only to pick up on some of the story, and dialogue nuances I missed in prior readings. I can heartily recommend this book. - BTW the elements of child molestation, abuse is handled very tastefully, as tasteful as possible and is not to be ignored - it has happened throughout history and to pretend otherwise is impossible - Jo Goodman has written an excellent book , one of the best I have read in a while.

Had some major problems (spoilers included)

I had some real problems with the story of this book. It wasn't that I didn't like the leads. They were fine and the story started out well, but as more details were added and added and added, it became an exercise in shock fiction.

One of my main complaints is that I don't understand why true villains get off without any punishment. That's been a theme for a while in many novels I've read. The hero and heroine's 'compassion' lets them send the villains off to another country or to live a life in poverty or some other such mild punishment. Presumably this is supposed to stop the criminal behavior. Not likely.

Does Ms. Goodman expect us to believe that Olivia's father stopped going to that convent to hook up with little girls when Olivia left? That he's not still visiting the convent school to exercise his perversions? Not only does her father go off to his life after having abused her as a child, but also after assaulting her in the office of the man who supposedly loves her, and the convent school is forgotten by the end of the book. Griffin and Olivia are not interested in what most likely continues to happen to the little girls sent there?

And does she expect us to believe that Olivia is the only person Mr. Burton tried to rape? Mr. Burton is left to his own devices at the end. Alastair's shots went astray and we're supposed to be happy about it. The reality is that Olivia was probably the only woman who escaped Mr. Burton.

And as for the dark topic, I felt Olivia's ardor with Griffin was also a bit hard to believe after what she'd suffered as a child and even as an adult. It seems her harrowing background was more an effort to create drama and, although it was realistically presented, the longer term effects of such trauma were virtually ignored, which made it all seem like a gimmick rather than a well considered plot line.

This is my first Jo Goodman book and I bought it because a friend recommended her as an author. I don't think I can go for a second try after this one, unfortunately. If there's anyone out there who agrees with my problems on this one and can recommend one of Goodman's stories without this sort of prurient exploitation of real and horrifying issues, I'd be happy to change my mind. I just won't go in blind again.

I can't recommend this book. I only give it two stars because she's got considerable talent as a writer and I did like the leads. Otherwise it would have gotten one.

A Dark But Very Good Book

The Price of Desire revolves around Olivia Cole and Griffin Wright-Jones. Griffin owns a hell where Olivia's brother, Anthony, has wracked up an enormous debt. When Griffin demands collateral until Anthony can pay the debt, Anthony is forced to give him a family heirloom. Through Anthony's selfishness and scheming Olivia ends up being given to Griffin as a marker. What follows is a journey of Olivia discovering her self-worth and learning how to trust someone.

It's always easier for me to be specific about the things that didn't work for me than the things that made me love a book. Bear with me as I try.

What I love about Jo Goodman's writing is the lyrical quality of the prose. As I read, the flow of the sentences takes on a cadence in my mind and pulls me through chapter after chapter. I find this is especially true in the way she writes dialogue. It has a certain rhythm that makes the pages turn quickly for me.

I'm definitely not an expert in any period of history, so I can't speak with any authority on how authentic everything was. However, I can certainly give my opinion as to how it felt for this reader. Everything felt authentic, especially how the characters spoke. The way they expressed themselves and the way they phrased things felt very antique. I don't mean that in a bad way, it was definitely a plus for me. There was never a moment where I stopped because something seemed weird about how the period was described. That happens to me sometimes. I feel compelled to google a fact because it seems so out of place.

Sometimes in a Romance book I either love the heroine or I love the hero. It rarely happens that I love both. I may like both, but I really only love one. That was not the case here. The way Olivia and Griffin were written made both of them strike a cord in me. I ended up feeling for both and enjoying them equally.

Olivia was such a mix of strength and vulnerability. I loved that about her. She was strong, but it was a quiet strength. She was very levelheaded and thought before she acted. Olivia was very self-contained. There were never any outbursts to give the reader or the characters in the book an obvious indication of how she felt. Because of that the reader and the characters are obliged to watch her and hope for more clues to figure out who she is as a person.

Griffin was more up front than Olivia, so it was easier to see who he was and what his motivations were. I didn't really enjoy his history with marriage, but I certainly understood it. I empathized with his circumstances and found his attitude toward them refreshing. Any character that has had a negative experience that impacted them but doesn't "woe is me" about it automatically earns points with me.

I didn't really enjoy the first love scene between Olivia and Griffin. It actually made me faintly uncomfortable. Having said that, I think the way it was done was spot on in regards to the characters. It gave me a lot of insight into Olivia and Griffin. I appreciate when a love scene actually shows me more about the inner workings of the characters. I enjoyed watching their relationship mature and how they grew together.

I didn't like how things were resolved with Elaine. That was the only part of the book that felt like it took the easy way out. I did however like the situation she left with Griffin. I was interested in what he would choose to do in regards to Nat. That's a hard situation to be in and I can honestly say I have no idea which way I would have gone on it.

I found the resolution, or the lack or resolution, with Olivia's family to be realistic. While I, living in the time I do, may think it is unfair and heinous things should be done to right the wrong, that wouldn't fit here. There isn't always a horrible future for villainous people. Sometimes there is no justice. I also like that Anthony stayed the same immature, selfish person throughout the book. I was glad that Olivia actually acknowledged his faults and learned she really couldn't depend on him. Too often the selfish family member suddenly reforms toward the end of the book for no discernable reason. It's very irritating.

This is a quiet book. We're never given info dumps or shown the character thinking very obvious thoughts like, "I love her/him". Until things are resolved through the characters the reader will have to pay attention to the actions of the characters to gauge their true feelings. Also, this is a very dark book in some aspects. Some readers may be turned off by that, so be warned.

A very good murder mystery

James Hadley Chase was London-born children's encyclopedia salesman and book wholesaler. He was inspired by American crime writers and wrote his first book "No Orchids for Miss Blandish" which was published in 1939 and still claimed to be one of the best selling mysteries ever published. He published some 80 books and a number of his books were attacked for their violence.

"You're Lonely When You're Dead" builds a mystery of a series of murder which is finally broken down by an intelligent detective. The story is woven around a millionaire's wife who is suspected of kleptomania. It begins one sunny morning around 11'o clock in mid-March. Mr. Vic Malloy, head of Universal Services, goes to meet a millionaire, Mr. Jay Franklin Cerf, who hires him to watch his wife, Anita Cerf, whom he suspects of kleptomania. Malloy appoints one of his operator, Dana Lewis, for the job but she was found dead after a few days of work. The millionaire's wife also vanishes. As Universal services guaranteed secrecy, Malloy had to beat the cops to the murderer.

The novel introduces us to a number of characters. Natalia Cerf, Cerf's daughter, who is in a wheel chair after meeting with an accident, Ceaser Mills, the millionaire's guard, who was a boxer and then disappeared suddenly, Brandon who is captain and Mufflin who is a cop. The Malloy's operators are Dana Lewis, Jack Kerman, Paula Bensinger and Ed Benny. The author introduces one more gorgeous lady, Miss Gail Bolus, who was the only person helping and swore she was just going along for the ride.

At the centre of the Chase's novel is Anita Cerf who disappears after the Dana's murder. When Cerf threatens to sue Malloy if he goes to the police, Malloy decided to play a lone hand find the killer. He was caught up in a series of ruthless murders and macabre situations that succeed each other with the punch and at the speed of a rivet gun. All the leads he got were found dead before he reached there.

Chase has a unique style on which his explanation of the situations and plot development makes the reader create original thought feel himself in that situation. Due to in depth description, an inexperienced reader may find himself too lost in his description and loose the storyline in the process. The narrator always distances himself from any and all characters, yet reveals the thoughts, feelings and emotions of each of them through the course of the novel.

Chase's masterpiece has such lucid characters and precise attention to emotional details to construct a clever plot that is both witty and thought provoking. In addition to its specifically literary virtues, it is a wonderfully edgy thriller.

Hard boiled but second string

This book is the ultimate in cliched hard boiled crime. The story is not too bad if you can forgive the dated attitudes to women and race, and the at times gratuitous violence. The numerous fight scenes read like correography for a Rocky movie, with each blow described in detail. While the story is set on the west coast of the US the author is obviously not American, while he uses the typical lingo of the genre, some common terms are British rather than US and this can be jarring. The writing is generally cliched preventing the book being a good example of the hard boiled crime genre.

An interesting book!

What a good book! There is much to learn from it and even if you don't follow along with everything or agree with it, it still definitely opens your eyes to things going on around you. You get a more in depth view on what's surrounding you in your home. A lot of things make sense once you read this book. I would recommend this to everyone especially those who have allergies to everything.

Hypochondriac's Delight

Almost a good read just for comic relief, I received this book from my Mom who sent it as an aid during design of our new house. The pseudo-science is simply incredible, from stating that sourcing outside air will increase furnace efficiency 15%, to claiming typewriter pads are dangerous. The air in your home, is Los Angeles smog. Maybe in L.A.

Discourse begins with the hook of stating you either are environmentally sensitive and know it; are sensitive and don't know it; or are apparently unaffected but probably aren't reaching your potential. I guess this is designed to capture the audience. Oh, the gender specified for each of these persons, "he." The distilled version is: Anything can cause illness if you are sensitive to that substance. How about diet, exercise, helping others, common sense and good luck.

To be objective, a reviewer on google: "Zamm's ideal house would be furnished in natural fibers, ceramic tile, and polyurethaned hardwoods--but even if you don't want to go all out, his tips for avoiding chemicals are useful."

Ok, I've gotten over my initial shock and chuckles. The book is worth a skim for whatever jumps out at you and is applicable to your build or remodel.
