"Revisioning Italy" is a collection of essays exploring contemporary Italian culture, including literature, cinema, the media, and other such cultural elements. A book like this might be called "cultural criticism," and while that might not be everyone's cup of tea, the open-minded will find this book to be a long-awaited treasure trove of ideas and theories about contemporary Italy. The articles themselves are well-researched and well-written. The previous reviewer describes this book as "silly." Really the only "silly" thing is his easy dismissal of this interesting book, and especially his seemingly arbitrary assertion that the selections by Italian writers are better when there are so many interesting contributions from non-italian academics here.

This book is silly nonsense. Honestly, I approached it with some skepticism because of the jargony title. I wasn't disappppointed. It's even worse. The best items are those by italian writers. All are substandard, most are junk. This is the opposite of a must-read. A must-pass.

About the Author
Sano Yoko is the recipient of the Sankei Cultural Award for Children's Literature and the Kodansha Picture Book Award - Judith Carol Huffman, a middle school teacher from Springfield, Ohio, was a lifelong student of Japanese children's literature and culture. She died in 1996.

unfortunate translation of a wonderful book

As a bilingual reader of both Japanese and English, I was happy to find that this wonderfully playful and at the same time complex book was finally translated into English. In the original, the voice of the narrator is often ironic, playful and repetitious, giving the book an incantatory tone. However, the translation of this book failed to capture that. In most places, the wording sounded wooden and dead; in other places, phrases sounded as if words were directly picked up from Japanese-English dictionary. Here is a good example that a book's essence was destroyed by amateurish translation. This is a tragedy. I gave it a "three stars" rating I think that translation, by nature, is a hard task. I would gladly give the orignal 5 stars, but this version of the text, unfortunately, brought down that rating.

A must-read for adults and children alike

What a treasure! This book is familiar to most Japanese people, and it's easy to see why. The creative, simple, even playful flow beckons to the child within all of us. The book really expresses the unique way the Japanese tend to value the quality of being "childlike", and shouts to all of us, "don't take things so seriously!" The simple way the story deals with happiness, love, and death make this a perfect book for an adult to read together with a child. Finally, the excellent translation captures the simplicity and playfulness of the original Japanese version almost perfectly.

heartbreakingly lovely

The remark by Horn Books (above) says the book will not gain many readers in the U.S. - if this were true, it would be a pity and a missed chance to understand and look at the fact of life that is probably the most difficult we have to deal with - passion and loss, love and death. This book, which I know only in Japanese, is lovely and extraordinary. Its story is heartbreaking and it probably will make you cry. But these tears will leave you with a deep, clear new feeling of how precious life is - yours and everyone elses.

This book is ridiculous.

I purchased this book awhile ago, but not from Amazon. I have no idea how this woman could be compared with "Dear Abby". I'm not saying she's a complete idiot, because I'm sure she can't have this much success without knowing how to market herself in some way, but she clearly doesn't know how men think, or atleast not consistently.

One conclusion I've come to, is that only men know how men think, and only women know how women think. Anything more, is merely a guess. You have your good guesses, and bad guesses. April Masini makes MANY bad guesses. It's also generic stuff, for the most part.

In general, I don't like "gurus". They lie, they are marketing experts, and they are incessantly devoted to patting themselves on the back. They also tend to recycle the "facts" of others, to fit their own scenarios.

April Masini, is a guru. I wasn't going to give a review, but I noticed an article by her on what women think about nice guys on Yahoo, and it was generic, like this book. It was also more than partly mistaken, just like this book. I bought it, because I was looking for real answers about how men think with regards to dating. I didn't get any of those answers. If you buy this book, I hope it can provide something for you, because it certainly hasn't for me.

I wish Amazon allowed you to give zero stars in a rating. This is worthy.

Misleading title & poorly written

This is a poorly written book in urgent need of an editor. As well, I did not find anything in this book about how to think and date like a man. How MEN think (or feel) about some things and how they date, yes, but not how WOMEN are to think and date that makes their thinking and dating like that of men. Maybe it would help if the book had a different title that more accurately represented what the author actually does write about instead of a title that was, perhaps, used to get women to buy the book. Misleading title aside, I think this book might be suited for young girls or newly single women who are re-entering the dating scene. However, I even hesitate to recommend it for them because I think that, overall, what AM writes about is not conducive to a mutually loving, respectful, enlivening, and emotionally mature relationship between adults.

I agree with AM that confidence is key, but one must learn what confidence is and how to have it, as real confidence cannot be faked. There are many authors and books I'd recommend instead of this book. Peace.

What Woman need to know!

This book tells the truth about men, and it tells women what we NEED TO KNOW (to succeed with men), which is not necessarily what we want to hear. It's a well written, easy read that had me laughing out loud. It is also full of valuable information, including where and how to meet successful men. This is not a politically correct book, but it is a book that motivates you to take action and delivers results. ( It is working for me!) My only complaint is that I wish he had read it sooner!

Every chapter of this book leaves you burning inside and on your knees in prayer. Ablaze for God is an appropriate title. I will be reading it many times over. Wesley Duewel certainly knows how to fan the flame. The spirituality that he presents here is what we need desperately, and what I want to embody more than anything. If I could only have the Bible and one other book the rest of my life, it would be this book. READ IT!!!

MUST READ - IF YOU ARE A LEADER - YOU MUST BE A READER

ABLAZE FOR GOD by Wesley L. Duewel is excellent! I read one chapter every morning to start my morning devotion (before I begin my personal prayer and study in the Lord). This is very difficult because I want to continue reading. ABLAZE FOR GOD is insightful and God's mighty hand is on this brother. Each chapter (short powerful preaching) is filled with the character of the Holy Ghost. There is no way anyone can read this and not be changed. There is no way in heaven or earth that after reading even one page of ABLAZE FOR GOD, that you do not jump up and down and cry out to Jehovah hallelujah. I love Jesus, I love God, I love the Holy Ghost. You will be changed! You will be inspired. Brother Duewel uses very few words to convey what God has put in his soul. Not one word is wasted. The Best of the Best

If you have seen any of my other reviews you will realize that Wesley L. Duewel is one of my favorite authors on the subject of the ministry of the Holy Spirit within the life of the Christian. Of all of Duewel's books, I like this one the best. Of all of the sections of this book, I like his discussion of power the best. His sketches of the ministry of the Holy Spirit within the lives of John Wesley, Charles G. Finney, and Duncan Campbell have inspired me in my faith journey as few other books ever have.

True tales of family, friends and what matters most

Fifty-five tales capture mementos ranging from a music box to a purple Tupperware cup, from an ugly quilt to bands of gold. Behind what each author chooses to keep is a story of a family member or friend, of a time and a place. Many of the keepsakes are not valuable objects, but the stories behind them reveal treasures of the heart. If you like "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books you'll want to read these stories!

Thanks for the reminder...

For those of us who cherish the smallest of things, found, given or inherited, Project Keepsake validates our desires and feelings. As I read the stories, I thought of all the little “keepsakes” I have stored away; items that only have meaning to me, even though I hope they will someday for my children and grandchildren. Regardless, they are in a safe place. Some on display and others in storage, each one has a story behind them. Thank you, Amber, for letting me know that they matter.
